Hello.

We have 15 XP Pro machines on our Novell 4x network. But suddenly a handful of the machines can no longer boot their machines and see the tree. They don't see the tree unless the machines run through scan disk. Does anyone know why this is happening or how to correctly resolve the issus?

Thanks in advance,

Dara

It sounds like a time out issue. If you boot normally it does not find the network, but if it waits while running chkdsk (not scandisk by the way) it finds the network. It could be something not related to Netware at all. How do the PC's get there IP address? DHCP? Are you having any issues with not enough available addresses or conflicts where 2 PC's are set up to grab the same IP instead of getting a leased or Dynamic address?

It could be Netware also though. Which client are you using? They just recently put out a new one for NT\2000\XP, you could try that. Are you runnning IPX? Or just IP?
If only IP then make sure the DNS server has the correct entries for the Novell servers.

BTW, this could well be a virus that travelled over your network.
