Subtotal group in pivot table

Is it possible to sub total groups in an excel pivot table.
I have created a sales pivot report where the items are grouped into items sold by area' ie: north, south, these are in the row section, in the column section I have month/year, and in the data I have sum of sales.I get grand total for all sales per month but I want to show a subtotal of area sales per month.

Right click on "Area"

Choose "Field Settings"

Under the "Subtotals" section, choose "Automatic". If that is checked and you still get no totals, choose "Custom" and "SUM"
