I have cr9 a main report that has an inner group that has a sub report that has its sections suppressed so that it is not visible in the main report and is shrunk to the lowest height available.

The only non supressed sections in the main report are the inner group footer where the sub report is and the outermost group footer in which I display totals partly generated from the sub report.

The problem is that some of the inner groups repeat more time than others leaving the outer group footers as they appear in preview to be variable distances apart sort of like this.

Totals 1
Totals 2

Totals 3,4

Totals 5,6,7
Totals 8

Is there a way to get rid of the gaps? If I suppress the inner group I don't get the correct totals.

In the section expert, turn on the "Underlay Following Sections" option.

Thanks for the reply Ido, I already have that ticked.

I know exactly what you are talking about, and personally haven't been able to find a solution other than making the subreport, and the section that contains the subreport really tiny.

This may interest you though:

...you should be able to suppress all sections within a subreport, format the subreport to "suppress blank subreport" and format the section it is in to "suppress blank section" and still have the subreport run.

I haven't tried it yet, but it sounds like it should work.

HardJeans (and by Proxy LBass), thanks for that!

It worked. I had tried 'supress blank section' but didn't spot the supress blank subreport option.
