I have a report that uses a subreport to list data, a total of which is calculated and placed in the main report. I only want the listed data to be shown on drill down.

I use a shared variable to pass the total into the main report, but when the section containing the report is supressed, this value is zero as obviously the subreport does not run

How can I get round this?

There may be some clever way to do this. If not, you could do a tiny duplicate version of the subreport, that passes back the value without showing anything. Put it in a section that won't be suppressed.

Yes, I have now tried the tiny sized version and that seems to be ok.

I also used hidden sections within the actual subreport itself and that is more or less what I want

Thanks

You could instead suppress all sections within the subreport and also go to format subreport and check "suppress blank subreport". Then you can also format the section containing the subreport to "suppress blank section". The subreport itself cannot be suppressed nor can the section containing it, but following the above steps will allow the shared variable to still pass to the main report.
