I have been having difficulty browsing subnets on my network. I have one domain with 4 subnets. I can get to any server in the domain through \\server but cannot see through network neighborhood. One of the dcs is a master browser but when run browstat sta I get the following message:

Status for domain TRC1 on transport \Device\NetBT_Tcpip_{1EC1233E-2109-4BE7-BBAA-FA6B6DBA4E6C}
Browsing is active on domain.
Master browser name is: URSALA
Master browser is running build 2195
2 backup servers retrieved from master URSALA
\\URSALA
\\R2D2-TEMP
Unable to retrieve server list from URSALA: 2141

I have checked dns, dhcp, wins - all seem ok - no changes have been made.

Any help would be appriciated.
Thanks in advance

You need one WINS server per subnet that replicate to themselves. The master browser (computer browser service) is only good for the current subnet it's in.

Unless you have 4 network cards in your server and they are all different subnets?

I get the same error (Unable to retrieve server list from URSALA: 2141) when running browstat within the same subnet. Also - there is a Wins server in the subnet.

That erro isr usually when your server is multi-homed (2 NICs). You must turn off the NetBios over TCP/IP in your TCP/IP properties of the 2nd network card.

The error is basically your 2nd network card saying it can't find the master browser because the 1st network card (IP) is binded to it already.

Also, I wrote a FAQ on Master Browser issues and I'll post a link that explains it a bit, it may help you solve it.
