How do I configure my form so that when I click the addrecord button on the main form, the record on both the main form and the subform are added?

Make sure that you link the correct fields.

In the Property Window for the sub-form, you will see a "Linked Fields" property. Make sure the entire Sub-Form is selected and your not in the forms properties which will not show this property.

What if you want the subform to save a record with the default values (all zeros) and you have the parent/child fields linked. Mine is set up this way but if I create a new record from the main record but there are no changes to the info on the subform, the subform does not create a record it it's table (Main form has separate table from subform)
