Sub reports not displaying when main report has no data

I have a Crystal v8 report which contains 3 subreports, each in a separate report footer section of the main report. I'm passing in 2 parameters which are used by the selection formulas in each of the reports.

I notice when the main report has no records to display in its detail section, then the subreports are not visible at all. I can then drill down on one of the subreports which I know contains data, and it will appear.

Does anyone know why this is occurring?
Thanks.

Typically, subreports won't run if there are no records in the main report. You might want to make your container a report that always has records, even if they aren't used. Then make your current container the first subreport.
If the subreports don't appear at all, what are you drilling down on? Ken Hamady, On-site Custom Crystal Reports Training & Consulting

I can locate the phantom sub report when I move the mouse cursor over it and it turns into an magnifying glass. When I click on it I can see an outline around the subreport (like it appears when you're in design mode). Then I can double-click on it and open the sub report.

(This is how it works in the design environment anyway. I don't know if I can do this when it's running in the Crystal Viewer.)

Thanks for your help. Maybe I can adjust the selection formula to pull in some dummy record, and then suppress it in the display.
