stun server necessary?

In the documentation, it says that the stun server is only required when connecting SIP trunks. Does this mean that the stun server settings would have no part in connecting a sip client from the outside as an extension on the inside?

We are trying to get a 3rd party sip client on an iphone to connect from the WAN but we are having trouble. I just need to know if I can remove the "stun server idea" from the equation.

A stun server will be needed to re-write the packets to tell the IPO where to send the data to, otherwise it will be trying to send it to your private IP

I don't use it. I simply use the IP Office as the STUN.
Works for me!

That's what I was referring to, the IPO is a STUN client that uses a STUN server

Stun is used by the IPO to determine the Public IP address of its internet connection

if this is known then the address & firewall type can be added in the Network topology tab without the need to specify a stun server or run stun
(obviously the customer needs a fixed public IP address or this will not work)

So if I am using stun, do I put the IP address of the stun server as the internal IP address of the ip office?

Public IP address as the external IP address

Firewall type: "most common NAT?"

Then press the "run stun"?,

When I save it will ask for a immediate save which will reboot and turn stun on?

if you are using stun then set the tun server IP to that of a suitable public stun server (or the one specified by your sip provider.
tick run stun on boot & send the config back
The Ipo should populate the remaining fields based on the result of the stun check (can take around 10 minutes before it is complete)
