Structured storage-reading from .stg file

I need to read from a structured storage file to get to the properties inside. Problem being, all the functions and methods I have tried only seems to read the properties as defined by word etc.

One of the sample apps does work, but I can't work out how to go from their. search for stg.exe on microsoft.

Any help greatly appreciated.
