I'm using access 97.

I'm working on an expression in a query and I'm receiving this message: The String returned by builder was too long. The result will be truncated. I assume my expression is a bit too long....

Any ideas or suggestions on how to get around this?

Thanx

Hello Gustavson,

I've been up against this one myself this week. I had a query which used a great many iif statements to generate 4 resultant fields. This has worked fine for several years but this week I wanted to add 2 more result fields and I got your error message.

I resolved it by making a new query where each field name is aliased to 2 character strings e.g.

PD: Product_Description
SD: Settlement_Description

I then rebuilt the query (the one where the expression was to long for the query grid) based on this new short name query (it is worth noting down what becomes what in the aliases to help the rebuild). This should do the trick. jobo123.
