I set up my page with my resolution at 1280x1040 and it looks good when viewed in the browser. When I try viewing it at 800x600 part of my page strecthes off the screen. A side scroll bar comes up and is needed to view that part of the page. I noticed that most web pages will only strecth to fit the window when viewed at a low resolution and not go off screen. I looked in the manual and I think it may have to do with the 'autostretch' feature, but I can't seem to manipulate it correctly(if that even is the solution). I'm probably missing something very simple. Please help with any tips. Thankyou

put a table on your page holding all your content with width set to 100% not pixcels The secret of life is honesty and fair dealing. If you can fake that, you've got it made.

Ok, I think I get this from your post. You designed your site at 1280-1024 right?

Those sites that fit in a 800-600 browser without scrolling are designed for that resolution. In fact, to my knowledge most sites are designed to 800-600 res with some designing for 1024-768. I design my own ideas to fit a 1024-768 browser and my work sites I design for 800-600.

If you have designed your site at 1280-1024 then you may well have to start again. Do you have a link to the site?

Thanks for the tips. I had a feeling I would have to start over so I have been doing more reading than developing. So are you saying it's a good practice to design a page with your resolution set to 800x600?

Yeah, design for 800-600. If you look at the bottom of the window in Dreamweaver you will see some sizes with a little arrow pointing down, click this and select 800-600 maximised. You can design a little bigger if you really want to, all depends on your target audience.

It doesn't matter about the scrollbar on the right, you can have the page as long as you like really but it's probably best to keep it to two pages (twice the height of the viewable area). This makes it easier to read. IMHO never let your site side scroll, esspecialy if you have content over there on the right. It's easy for your visitors to scroll up and down, esspecialy now we have these little wheels on the mouse to aid that but side scrolling is a pain in the a***..... But like I said, My opinion.

All in all you should be designing your sites to fit an 800-600 browser (1024-768 max). This way most, if not all will see it how you intended. Oh, apart from the thousand other things you need to consider when designing a site but you'll pick that up as you go I'm sure.

Good luck.... Show us when your done, you'll get some very honest comments from people here.
