(Windows XP workstation on a Windows 2000 Active Directory Network)

I Go to Command Prompt, and type: Ping domain.com

This works--no problem.

I Go to windows, and try to browse to domain.com.

Windows says it cannot find domain.com (there is only one domain and the XP workstation is part of it).

If I browse to the IP address for domain.com--no problem.

I tried entering the IP address for domain.com in the HOSTS file--just to see if I can get XP to resolve the address. After a restart, I tried browsing to domain.com and it did not work.

I tried disconnecting the workstation from the domain and then putting it back on--this did not clear up the issue.

Does anyone know why Windows XP cannot resolve domain.com but a ping from the command prompt can?

Please let me know...thank you!

Charlie

After extensive research, I solved my own problem and I thought I would put the solution here in case anyone else ever comes across this problem.

The "TCP/IP NETBIOS Helper" service was DISABLED on the client workstation. I set it to AUTOMATIC and restarted and I am able to browse to domain.com without any problems.
