I say "strange" since it is not a problem that I have come accross before. Not that I have not had the "no logon server found" error message, but that I get it when there is a logon server!
I have 4 networks.
corp - 172.16.x.x
Remotes 192.168.1.x 192.168.2.x and 192.168.3.x
I have a PDC at each site (4 total) and each PDC has WINS server enabled. There is also a BDC at corp.
The following was tested using the site PDC and at least one other workstation from that subnet. All 4 sites can see the IPs of all machines at all 4 sites. No problems there. All 4 sites can access shared drives on all of the file servers at all 4 sites by IP address.
now here is where it gets "strange". When I use WINS, I can access shares on the corp BDC from all 4 sites using the WINS server local to that site. I can access the PDCs of all the remotes from all 3 remotes. But I cannot access the corp PDC from any of the remotes. The BDC has most of the shares on it, and I can access them from the remotes. Now if I ping the name of the corp PDC from a remote it sees the corrct IP and gets replies from it. In fact if I ping the IP of any machine at all I get the correct IP, no matter where I ping or where I ping from. I also always get replies from the correct place.
Please help me. This is a small emergency as we have alot of employees who need access and are not getting it. We are working around the problem as best we can, but cannot seem to find the solution to make the Corp PDC act right. We think it may have been a trust relationship gone bad, or a WINS database corruption, but we redid both of them and got nowhere. Any help at all will be appreciated.
Thank you.
