Strange Public Folder error

I am attempting to set up some Public Folders on my E2K system, but I get this error when I try to see the folder heirarchy via the Exchange System Manager (running on the actual server):

The SSL certificate server name is incorrect

... and it shows me no folders. I was able to create a folder via Outlook on the machine, but I can't do anything with it. Shouldn't I be able to see it?

This machine is running OWA and does have an SSL cert for use by the OWA website. Could that be interfering? But how?

I would really appreciate you help.

Did you force to use SSL on the Public - Virtual Directory. If so that is why. We get this from IIS. Dan

Go into ISM (IIS Admin Util)
Right Click the Public Virtual Directory -> Properties
Security Tab
Then one of those talks about SSL being required. Dan

I removed SSL from the public virtual directory, but it's still not allowing me access via Exchange System Manager. Is there something else I need to enable/disable?

Yes. I can open them as (using the machine's actual name, and not it's external "domain name"), with OWA. Should it still be demanding the use of SSL, or is it doing that because the main page is still requires that? I could not open the store using unencrypted http.

I appreciate your ongoing help. I am new to Exchange 2000, and this has been a learning experience outside of simple public folder access in many, many ways.

You can't use SSL with the ESM. Dan

That works great! At least one back-end must not have SSL turned on if you want ESM to work. And you will need to tell it to connect to that server for public folders. Dan

Wow! Finally got it working. One of the frustrating parts about this was that I would go into the IIS MMC, and disable the SSL on the site, but it STILL would try using SSL in the ESM. I eventually had to remove the certificate completely, and then re-install it. Once I re-installed, and then made sure I didn't propogate the requirement for SSL to the proper folders, it finally worked. Thanks for all your help! :)
