Strange Problem with GPO Office Deploy 1

I just rolled out a GPO to deploy an Office 2003 upgrade after testing it to my satisfaction.

Of course, the first person to reboot runs into a problem on install. Even though I created an MST with (among other things) the product ID, it was prompting her for a product ID. So I tried using our VL one and it wouldn't accept it. I used the VL to set up the MSI so I know it is the right key.

The only odd thing about this particular user is that she connected via our wireless access point/router so she is on a different subnet.

Any ideas why the installation worked except for the MST??

First question is does the MST work for everyone else?

Did you patch the install?

Refer to faq96-4996.

I hope you find this post helpful. Please let me know if it was.

The MST worked in testing but she was the first to have it applied outside of testing. I did not intend for her to get the update - she is a remote user and I did not even know she was in the office, let alone connecting to the network.

I had followed the FAQ and I was confident it was working well after testing.

What I think happened is that her laptop had permission to apply the GPO (I have rights to all domain computers), but her logon did not, as she was logging on locally to her laptop - not to the domain.

I immediately killed the GPO and now I am afraid to re-enable it.

For my remote computers, can I burn the whole administrative installation share to a CD and distribute that? Then what would my users need to type to install the MSI plus the MST?

Thanks!

Christine

When you created the MST it gives you the command line you would need. You can run throught he Custom Installation Wizard again and not change anything to have it give you the command again.

For your GPO, make sure that you are setting some restrictions. For instance if you have remote users, add their machine names into a group and add that to the security settings of your GPO and use DENY.

I hope you find this post helpful. Please let me know if it was.

Thank you for the tips!
It appears to be working correctly for everyone else.
I was also able to create a CD for those remotes using the Custom Installation Wizard for the commands.

I appreciate the help. :)
