Hi there,

Network info as follows:
NW6 server SP3 running both IPX & IP
NWClient 4.9SP1a running on WXP SP1 workstation, with IP only

After successfully login to server & mapped drive via login script, after a while (say 20-40 mins), volumes (other than SYS) got connection problem. At dos prompt, I can goto z:\public & run "map" command, it shown correct result as follows:

Z:\PUBLIC>map

Drives A,B,C,D,E map to a local disk.
Drive F: = SRV2_APP.: Drive Z: = SRV2_SYS.: \PUBLIC
----- Search Drives -----
S1: = C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32
S2: = C:\WINDOWS
S3: = C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\WBEM
S4: = C:\DMI\WIN32\BIN
S5: = C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\NLS
S6: = C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\NLS\ENGLISH

Then I goto F: & do a dir there, it shown

K:\>dir
Volume in drive F is APP
Volume Serial Number is G4W2-LM96

Directory of F:
11/11/2003 19:00 <DIR> LOGIN
11/11/2003 19:00 <DIR> MAIL
11/11/2003 11:38 <DIR> ndps
11/11/2003 19:00 <DIR> PUBLIC
0 File(s) 0 bytes
4 Dir(s) 3,833,823,232 bytes free

Obviously those info belongs to SYS, not APP.

Also only a few XP machines got such problem, & the rest of the 98 machines don't have such problem.

I tried to reinstall NWClient with lower version, but it's still the same.

Wondering if anyone see this before? Any recommendation?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Hi there,

Some more info for my problem. When it happened, I checked "console monitor|connections" & found that my login entry with * gone, only normal entry remained there.
Normally after I login, I should have 2 connections:

*CN=username.OU=dept.O=org.T=tree, with status Authenticated

CN=username.OU=dept.O=org.T=tree, with status Normal

At console, I set console display watchdog logout to on, but didn't see any message related to my login being kick out.

However, from system tray's red N, netwware connection still said I authenticated to both tree & server. If I highlight tree & click detach button, it said "attempt to logout of nds tree TREE failed". If I hightlight server & click detach button, it went through without problem, then the tree will also gone. Then if I login again, I can successfully login & get drive mapping without problem, & at console monitor's connection, I got 2 entries again.

Please feel free to comments. If you need more info, please feel free to ask. Many thanks!

You are having licensing problems. You need to see what's up with your licenses, whether they are installed correctly, whether your server is consuming them correctly, and find out why the user connection is not obtaining a connection license.

A lot of the stuff you mention in your second post is irrelevant.

A really good way to see what's going on with your licenses is to go to the Remote manager..
Then login and go to health monitor, all the way to the bottom to Licenses.. It will be YELLOW. Click on it, then run a licensing report. Notice that your connections are grace connections, not licensed connections. It lays it all out right there for you.

Hi Marvin,

Thanks for your tips. I went to remote manager, health monitor, but can't find any link pointing to licensing???

All listed item there are in GOOD status. Is there something wrong (or version different) for my remote manager?

Many thanks!

Hi Marvin,

Just found that iManager is not working fine on my server, maybe that's why I can't go all the way thru licensing report. Maybe I need to find some time to reinstall it...

Anyway I run the old toy nwadmn32 & check from there I still have 7 free license available to use.

Please feel free to comments. Many thanks!

Sorry, you must be on Netware6, it doesn't have the license stuff in the health monitor.

If you do a 'VERSION' at the console, you should see a license serial number mentioned. that's the first place to check.

There are a few things you need to check...

- make sure Server has acquired it's server license
- make sure user licenses are at same container or higher in your tree
- make sure user licenses "Assignment" is left blank.
- Check to see if licences are being consumed, and by who.
- run a licensing report from nwadmin to get a lot of good info and troubleshooting stuff.

If it turns out to not be your licensing, then post back and give us more info.

Also, with NW6SP3, make sure you have the NW6NSS3C.EXE patch and turn of Client file caching and oplocks. Or install NW6SP4 and turn off the caching and oplocks.

Hi Marvin,

Thx for further info.

From server console info, it said
Server license: novell netware 6 server 600 sn:xxxxxxxx
User license: novell netware 6 user 600 (hard stop)

I just login as myself & found my 2 entries in monitor|connection info, & run nwadmn32 to check I consumed 1 license at the correct date/time. Lic report summary as follows:

Product Licensing Usage Report
Date and time of licensing data: 07/09/2004 09:37:07

Product:
NetWare 6 Server+Novell+600

License container contexts:
Sample.Org

Current License Usage (100.0%):
1 units used
1 units installed

Duration Time Period (06/10/2004 09:37:07-07/09/2004 09:37:07):
Peak License Usage (100.0% occurred on 07/09/2004)
1 units used
1 units installed

Hours Exceeded:
Date Used Installed Exceeded

Product Licensing Usage Report
Date and time of licensing data: 07/09/2004 09:40:23

Product:
NetWare 6 User+Novell+600

License container contexts:
Sample.Org

Current License Usage (73.3%):
22 units used
30 units installed

Duration Time Period (06/09/2004 09:40:23-07/09/2004 09:40:23):
Peak License Usage (73.3% occurred on 07/09/2004)
22 units used

So I guess my problem didn't related to license?
Please correct me if I'm wrong.

P.S. After I finish nwadmn32 & typed this post, my * entry in monitor|connection already gone!

Thanks again for your help in this matter!
