I have a problem between my corp office and a field office. I am creating an NDS Account for a new user in the field office, when that user logs in he is prompted that his password has expired. He changes it and it lets him into the network. When he logs out and attempts to log back in, his password is not valid. If he uses the old password that we assigned to the account then it lets him in but prompts him to change the account. If I log into the network from my corp office on the same account it accepts the password change.

My root replica exists in the corp office with a Read/write in the field office. I've forced a sync from the root to the field office but that didn't take care of the issue. Running DSRepair on the server shows 0 errors. I'm about to delete the Replica in the field office tonight and then force all changes from the root to the field office to see if that takes care of the problem.

Just wanted to get others thoughts on this problem. I've never ran into this issue before so the logical steps I've done don't fix the issue.

I would have deleted and recreated the user object first before messing with DS - it could have just been a rogue user. -----------------------------------------------------

Hi

I had a similar problem and it was caused by the Servers not in SYNC. I made sure timesync was working accross the network without any errors and the problem was solved. I did have to have the user set his password again.
Hope this helps

Hey Lad, thanks for responding, sorry I didn't add that little bit of information but I already did that, in fact I created a new user (different ID) and it happened the same way. I ran DSTrace and everything was up and insync.

David, the timesync could be an issue, it seems to me that one of my guys told me that he had to adjust the time on the server, I'm going to run DSRepair and do a time sync to see if there are any issues with regards to time.

I'm off to see if I can get this fixed, if I find out the answer I'll let you guys know what it was. Thanks for the input.

David, man I got to give you a star on that one. I have one word, Timesync.cfg. Seems that it had an old file server that I recently took out of the network that it was attempting to sync with. Without the server being there....well you get the picture. Thanks for helping out on this one, I should have known, guess thats what happens when you get a little too comfortable with your network.

Take care guys, thanks for the help. Hope I can return the favor sometime. I'm off to bed now :)
