Having an issue with NDPS printing. On jobs larger than 1 page (ie 15 page doc) they might get 7 pages first try, 3 pages next try. Everything looks ok but not sure what's happening. Has anyone seen this??? Most printers are hp laserjets.

Do you have hyperthreading turned on at your server? turn it off.

I would also update your Laserjet firmware via the HP Download Manager -- download it from HP.

Does it happen on all printers or just one?

Not sure about HT, will check, and it happens to all of the network laserprinters but the print output is not consistent but I will download the firmware updates and give it a try. Thanks.

i assume this is 6.5.3 and you are using the hp gateway

I've seen this a lot since upgrading to 6.5. Stop using the HP gateway, use the Novell gateway. This has solved every instance of this problem for me.

I will give it a try, thanks for the input guys, will give you an update, may take me a while I have about 40 to swap.

Oh, wow... I just assumed you were using the Novell gateway.. Sorry. Definitely get away from the HP gateway. It's terrible.

There is a cool tool that will convert your 3rd party gateways into the Novell Gateway in about 5 seconds.. It works really well (except on Canon).

there is a document somewhere by a school tech - not sure where and it is seemingly that the sp updates all except the library for the hp gateway

we had only a few hp gateways mainly for multi port jetd's
deleting the gateway and recreating same name etc but as a novell one and no probs

but i would check the url above - i'm going to in aminute

If you guys were Female, blonde, and naturally endowed I would give you a hug !!! Thanks, will be trying that utility as soon as I get back in the office.

That utility.... it's also used to convert old style Novell agents to the new style... But if you run it with the command line switch (can't remmber which one), it will show up with all the other gateway types as well.

Checked it out and some of my printers are the hpgateway while others are NDPSGW. When converting the HPgateways which novell choice do I want? SNMP or Port handler?

You want the SNMP one.. They aren't very clear about that.

Read through that readme that's on the TID so you understand what's going on.. It's pretty helpful.

This is how it goes down... just to add to my previous post.

When using SNMP gateway, the module NDPSGW.NLM is what loads and drives the printer agent. When using the Port Handler, the module PH.NLM is what loads instead.

The SNMP gateway is supposed to be more reliable and also works better in clustering because the printers load much faster. The fact that there are two different types of Novell gateways, well.. that's not documented very well. I actually stumbled onto that fact a few months ago when troubleshooting a strange problem much like what you are dealing with.
