Strange Microsoft Network Client Problem

A couple days ago, a user couldn't connect to any network drives. It was because the "Client for Microsoft Networks" service wasn't enabled. The problem is, when I check mark the service, it asks if I'm sure i want to disable the service. Pretty much there is no way to enable it. Today, another computer is having the same problem. Has anyone run into something like this before?
