I made a document using quark 6. quark saves the doc as a qxp and the printer needs a qxd (or an earlier version I guess). so I saved my file to 5.0 and everything went ok. However when I opened that file I noticed someting very strange with the fonts: the spacing seems to be off, so text boxes look strange. for example text that was in one line moves to two lines, line spacing seems bigger and simlar things. this is very strange because every value seems to be the same...

hope this is clear. if anyone has any idea about how to do this, please help.

thanks
PS: I think I posted this twice (the first time as a reply to something, though I cant find it again). Sorry about that (if I did).

2 things...

Saving down to a previous version is not an ideal way to send files to another. If you want the file to work perfectly, both computers need to be running the same software.

You describe a font problem: Is your printer using the same fonts that you are using? No two Helveticas are alike.

Your situation is an excellent argument for a PDF workflow.

Thanks jimoblak

Actually the problem happens always on my computer, the printer didnt even open it yet. I save it as qxp on quark 6 and it works perfectly when I reopne that file. when I saved it as 5.0 (qxd) for the printer and opened it for testing (on that same computer with quark 6) I saw that strange problems...

This is my first project with quark 6. before I always sent my files as qxd with images as .tif, so I'm a bit unsure about using another way of sending. I would love to send an eps (quark=>save as eps) or even a pdf (I dont know exactly how to do that). Do you know if thats possible? if so can you send me to a page with some info about this?

thanks

Prior to Quark 6, you needed Acrobat Distiller to create a PDF. You can now spit out a PDF from Quark 6 with no problem. Check the manual on the Quark CD for specifics. Since Quark 6 is new, there are not many online sources for Quark 6 to PDF tips. The manual details the process perfectly. Creating the PDF is as simple as printing.
