Hi all,

This board has a strange problem. The bios
shows on the monitor WAY to the left,

and two images ( top and bottom)

Problem - you cant read what it says. I always
have to guess what stage of install. very
annoying.

Is this a board problem or video card?

soyo firedragon board.

Beth

Try asking in the PC hardware general discussion or video issues discussion?
Also have you considered it may be a monitor setting?

John

hi

shouldnt be monitor, cause xp and programs
show fine.

just when entering bios,

or trying to read install screens when installing ox

Beth

Beth20,

Sounds like a video refresh rate issue that is sorted when Windows loads the drivers for the video adapter and monitor.

If it's a modern monitor then there may be OSD (On Screen Display) controls on the monitor itself that you can change.

Sorry... didn't understand "or trying to read install screens when installing ox"

........not sure how to describe it other than.

1 monitor works fine.

2 If you go in bios, you get 2 squashed bios
images. way to the left . stacked.

3. if you install windows, the install screens
are way to left also ( cant read them hardly
at all )

thanks

Have you tried adjusting the display when in BIOS as others have suggested? The refresh rate and display mode in BIOS and install screens is not the same as the mode XP is in after an install.

From your description, it sounds as if the display must be moved to the right horizontally, and up or down verically while in BIOS display.

Beth20,

1. Re: monitor works fine.

The monitor may be working fine inasmuch that an image is displayed but it sounds like it needs horizontal/vertical synchronisation before Windows is installed.

2) Re: If you go in bios, you get 2 squashed bios images. way to the left. stacked.

This means the monitor's horizontal/vertical synchronisation needs adjusting. Try using the controls on the monitor to shift the images first left or right.

3) Re: if you install windows, the install screens are way to left also ( cant read them hardly at all )

Again, this means the monitor's horizontal/vertical synchronisation needs adjusting first.

Is this a flat-screen monitor? If so, do you have access to an plain CRT monitor you could use to install the Windows OS?

Rick

One the munged display is on the screen, will turning the monitor off then back on resolve the issue? If so, you have a monitor that is failing to identify the proper scan rates.

Give the wrong symptoms, get the wrong solutions.

'Scan rates'... that's the phrase I forgot. Linney's link also reminded me of onboard graphic failures on 2 or three 'Digital 3000' PC's which showed similar 'shifted' displays (but in BIOS, DOS and Windows) which we were never able to cure and ended up adding new graphics cards.

Interesting thread. Will check it when I return from holiday.

Rick

havent had time to check your fixes.

But it is a flat monitor I use with it.

( cant remember if I used my other crt monitor
with it before or not)

thanks all,

Beth
