This problem started off happening every couple of days, then sometimes every few weeks or so. It is happenning more and more often, now pretty much every day.

We have exchange 5.5 with latest sp etc running on nt4 (likewise updated), this message pops up (random times of the day)

*****
store.exe - Application Error
The instruction at "0x77f05148" referenced by memory at "0x00000bb". The memory could not be "written"

Click OK to terminate
Click Cancel to debug
*****

Sometimes you get a similar message after this with a 'memory cant be "read".' message.
When you click ok the Cancel and then debug you get this:

*****
Module Load: C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32\MSNSSPC.DLL (symbol loading deferred)
Module Load: C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32\RPCLTCCM.DLL (symbol loading deferred)
Module Load: C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32\WSHNETBS.DLL (symbol loading deferred)
Thread Create: Process=0, Thread=124
Module Load: C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32\NTDLL.DLL (could not open symbol file)
Module Load: C:\EXCHSRVR\BIN\STORE.EXE (could not open symbol file)
Thread Terminate: Process=0, Thread=124, Exit Code=0
Second chance exception c0000005 (Access Violation) occurred
Thread stopped.

If you click ok then the information store service ends. The only way i can find to then start it again is empty the imc/in folder (mails waiting to be forwarded from our pop3 connector into the exchange store) and the internet mail service and also end the message forwarding service, and only then can you restart the information store.

I have done a defrag of the database about 2 weeks ago and this hasnt made any difference.

Any ideas what is causing this would be greatly appreciated!
Cheers

Hi there,

How big is your store, have you reached the 16GB limit?

Russell.

Carlsberg don't run I.T departments, but if they did they'd probably be more fun.

its only 4 or 5 gig, was about 7, before the defrag. we had cleaned up a lot of emails just before the defrag so i thought all the empty space in the database might be the cause, but after the defrag it hasnt made any difference, still happens
