I've tried to restart a service - but its hung - is there a way to kill the service without restarting the system. The service is Backup Exec Remote Agent.

Thanks

gmono - this can be tricky, only use as a last resort. You can go thru Task Manager and the Processes tab, find the service name - highlight it - and click the End Process button.

To find the proper name of the service under Computer Management - Services; highlight, right-click it, and choose Properties. In the "Path to executable" box, the service name will be listed (be careful if it's a "svchost.exe" with a switch and something like "netsvcs" behind it; they're not broken down any further in Task Manager - you could accidently shut the server down if you choose the wrong one!)

You could check with Veritas, but there's also a Backup Exec forum here on Tek-Tips: Home > Forums > Server Rack > Back-up Systems that may be able to assist in your troubleshooting.
