All,
What the heck is up with that error message? This occurs on install of W2k Server, on PII machine. I've followed all the 'turn off bios caching/shadowing' suggestions, but I still get this. I'm installing on a new machine, using the 4 boot floppys, and every time I get this I have to start from floppy 1 and try again. It happens at different times during install, but usually somewhere in the 'copying files' part.
Any ideas? Thanks...

Matt,
Thanks for that link. I read it, and I've stripped the machine to the barest hardware--even took the nic out, and I still get the error. I'm wondering--do you know if the motherboard itself could be incompatible? This seems unlikely--I think that there'd be more written on that issue if it (motherboard incompatibility) were indeed an issue. It's a reasonably new, mid-level Abit board, I wouldn't think they'd have boards that specifically wouldn't work with NT/2000.

Anyway, judging from that kb link and others, it's seems like a disk i/o driver issue, but as far as I know, I don't have any drivers, do I? I mean, I used fdisk and deleted the partition, and let the Setup format it for NTFS, and booted from W2K setup disks--so any drivers loaded would be W2K drivers, I'd think. Anyway, if let me know if you're aware of any m/board issues in general, or where (and how) and disk drivers would be loaded on a system...I'm at a loss.

Thanks,

Matt,
I found the problem...I read the fine print at the bottom of one of the kb articles... 'bad RAM can also cause this'. I removed the stick and replaced it with one from my other machine and the install went perfectly and I'm up and running!
Thanks for your help...it was your link that eventually did it,
