Does anybody know of a good book that explicitly shows how to set up an odbc connection for sql server under win 2000.

I have tried a number of things and still have a login failure because it apparently can not find the user name and password.

I have set up a new user name and id, set up and odbc driver and tried to use this name and password but to no avail. The only way I can get it to work is to use windows authenication. Sql server authenication gives me fits.

Try this:

Make sure that the server is using (among others) TCP/IP protocol;
Make sure that the client machine is using TCP/IP (use the Client Network Utility on the SQL Server program group to do this), and
Use an IP address rather than machine name in the ODBC setup. Robert Bradley
