Hi all,

I'm running a fully patched windows 2008 server standard edition as a dhcp server and DC with a single NIC.

DHCP was working fine, bound to servers static ip but due to connectivity problems (should point out that the connectivity problems turned out to be a faulty switch box and nothing to do with the server or NIC) I removed the NIC from device manager in an attempt to install different drivers. I'd tried the update drivers option but it didn't allow me to as windows thought the current drivers were more appropriate. I previously had a static ip setup for the server and had dhcp bound to that ip. Removing the NIC from device manager reset the static ip setting back to the "obtain automatically". So I set the ip back to static and went back to the dhcp and tried to bind it back, but the ip didn't show in the list to bind it to. I then removed the dhcp role and re-added it , setting the static ip binding as I went through the wizard. The wizard appeared to complete ok but the binding to the servers static ip didn't show in the binding list and as you'd expect dhcp wouldn't work.

I am quite new to server configuration,so please don't worry about stating what you think is the blinding obvious, as it may not be to me.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Richard

Did you reboot between each step? If not, just reboot now and see if you can finish the project. Good luck. (You should have been prompted to reboot, but some folks choose "No, don't reboot now")

Hi GlenJohnson

I did re-boot several time but to no avail. I've now gone down the root of re-installing the 2008 to get around the problem.

Thanks for your response.

regards

Richard
