I'm having problems starting my computer. It's the third 1 I built and it's about a year and a half old. Here are the components.Abit k7 mb,AMD athlon 950classic,512mb corsair ram.2of which r 128mb the other 256mb.,Elsa gts2 video,WD-hard drives 1@10gb the other a 40gb,both7200rpm,300 watt ps,imation ls-120 floppy, standard floppy,1 creative labs cdrw and a pioneer cddvd player.creative labs live value audio,an i/o card and a 10/100 card.Running windows XP-home edition with sp1.The machine has been running fine since the update.I updated with sp1 a few day after it cameout. No problems at all.Just the other day when i went to turn on my computer the power seemed to come on then it just shut down. After several attempts to restart the computer, it came back to life, only to hang in the startup menu. After several more tries the thing rebooted and ran fine.It seems that every time I shut down the system for a day I get the same problem.I tried replacing the PS with a new 1,same problem.I replaced the powercord, cleaned and replaced the cards, still the same.Ieven disconnected everything that wasn't needed to get the system to start.Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

I have seen this type of behaviour with a faulty CPU.

I would seriously suggest, if taking out all excess bits didn't make any difference to solving the problem, that you take out all those excess bits, because if the CPU goes it can take out add-ons - just to be on the safe side until you bottom the problem.

Try reseating 6 to 8 times the CPU, memory, and the BIOS if it is pluggable.

Ed:
I assume you mean to reseat them and then try again...and repeat 6 to 8 times?
Another question that comes to mind is: in view of the socket pins in an AMD CPU insert...(no way unless they're all lined up right)...there still is a possibility of not being seated correctly?
You've run into situations where the 8th time it worked?
(and the problem went away)
