Startup Form not loading correctly...

My database (W2K) has an autoload form, when I go to load it it doesn't load the data connected to it or run any of the vb code I have in the 'on open' event. I get around this by clicking design and THEN re-opening the form - not an ideal situation.

I recently upated my office package using the latest service pack (Office 2K SP3) ~ could this possibly be the cause?

Although I could be wrong, I don't think that installing SP3 should cause a problem. That's what I'm running.

You can always bypass the startup by holding down the <Shift> key while the db is opening. Or once you are in the db, press F11.

I only mention this as a way to get into the db so you can check the Startup options. Maybe something has changed in there. Also, check to see that Name AutoCorrect is turned off, as that causes a number of problems here and there.

Thanks Tom

My problem isn't with me being able to access the db, as the Form itself (at startup) loads but just doesn't show the information it has in the table attached to it.

Cheers

It almost sounds as if the record source for the form is getting blown off track. But if so, why does it work when you shift into Design mode and then back into Normal mode? Some serious quirk going on.

You might try naming that form (old), creating a new form, dragging all the controls into it, and making sure the record source is set correctly, and see if that makes any difference.

Or, as a test, just drag a couple of the fields from the table into a brand new form, and see if it holds.

Have tried that...still doesn't seem to change the outcome.

Could it possibly be an error somewhere in my VB code? In the "On Open" event I have a Docmd.Maximise which also doesn't work until after I toggle back from 'design' to 'open' mode.

Hmmm, that's weird. DoCmd.Mazimize on the OnOpen event isn't any different in SP3.

But I'm wondering...have you looked at the References in the VBA editor, to make sure that both DAO and ActiveX (ADO) are checked?

Another thought...have you downloaded the latest version of the Jet engine? Having the latest Jet sometimes makes a difference once service packs are installed.

It's a bit like looking for a needle in a haystack, isn't it?

How are ya shannonp . . . .

I have the same platform [blue]2000 SP3[/blue]. Installed it when it 1st came out . . . . no problemo. Been running just fine ever since.

[purple]Its a possibility![/purple] [blue]SP3[/blue] has specific requirments that have to be met for installation and [purple]it is a little picky[/purple]. Since it appears [blue]you may have some kind of corruption[/blue] (I've never had a problem with autoload in any version Access with any service pak) you should [blue]critique[/blue] the following link to insure [blue]SP3[/blue] was installed properly.

Also . . . . was it working before installation of [blue]SP3?[/blue]

Thanks...I'll give those suggestions a whirl and let you know if they resolve this issue.

Sorry Aceman I didn't forget to answer your question, that message was directed at Tom. Now to answer your question....

Not Sure?! I was made aware of this by a frontend user but around about the same time I made some minor adjustments to a few forms - interesting to note though, is that the form that runs at startup WASN'T touched and nothing I changed was even remotely related. I backtracked as best I could but the problem still occured. This is why I was thinking is was the SP3 upgrade.

Thanks for that site address too btw, I looked at it and everything (as far as I can see) checked out.

OK shannonp . . . . .

Lets see how it works dry of query & VBA.

Make a new Form.

Set the [blue]RecordSource[/blue] directly to any table.

Drag a few fields to the detail section.

Save/Close and name the form.

Autoload that Form & let us know the results . . . . .

BTW, to qualify what you mean by [blue]autoload[/blue]; do you mean a form selected in the startup dialog?
