MY
during the starting windows, where the progress bar loading before it's goes into desktop. it's stop there and i received this message:-
"Windows 2000 could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: \WINNT\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEMced startup options for windows 2000, press F8.
You can attempt to repair this file by starting windows 2000 setup using the original setup floppy disk or cd-rom.
Select 'r' at the first screen to start repair."

i does this with the ERD disk with fast repair. but it won't work. even if i go to F8, all the option that i choosen will give me the same message. Conclusion is it's doesnt goes into windows. How can i repair this? If i re-install with the installation CD, will all the data in my drive will be still there?
Thank you

Sounds like you've got a corrupt registry hive. Try booting on the setup CD, go to the Repair option and choose Recovery Console. It's a limited DOS-type shell, but you can copy files from one place to another.

When you made the ERD, it created backups of the registry hives. It should be in c:\winnt\repair. I'd suggest you rename c:\winnt\system32\config\system to system.orig and copy c:\winnt\repair\system to c:\winnt\system32\config\system.

You _may_ also have files in c:\winnt\repair\RegBack that are more recent. I recently updated my ERD, and it placed a more recent system hive in there. If so, use that one instead. (The ones in my repair directory are more than a year old, and the RegBack files are just a week or so old, so I suspect the ERD process put them there when I ran it last week.)

Hope this helps.

no mattwray, the "Last Known Good Configuration" option won't work either.

anyway, i already solved the problem according what pixboy says. i just replace the system file from repair folder to the original file. but all the driver won't be there. that mean i need to re-install my all the driver for my vga, modem card and etc.
Thank you very much guys.

You didn't have a newer system hive somewhere? I'd never noticed the RegBack folder before, so I'm guessing it was an SP3 or SP4 addition. Hopefully Windows will detect enough of your equipment and install the appropriate drivers, you're at least 95 percent of the way there!

i think i dont have newer system maybe because of i does the ERD just after i install w2k and never do any backup after that. mine is SP4, but i doesnt seen any RegBack in winnt folder guess that i need to install the driver manually. :)

thank you
