I really can't answer for accually selling software on these sites. I do know that those sites are shareware/freeware sites and most of the time people go to them looking for a quick fix for a temporary problem.
I have purchased software off twocows before but it was a killer auction tracking program with complete source code. It cost me twenty dollars and was worth every penny. However, I went through three of them trying to find a good one. Price it fair and if it is well written they will buy it. Twocows places you according to your ratings so the better the software the better the ranking.
I can't think of any other way to get shareware out in the public view then the two sites you mentioned. You would have to do some major and expensive advertising to get anymore exposure. I do know a little something about advertising a business on and off the net.

How many C++ programmers does it take to change a light bulb? ..............
You're still thinking procedurally. A properly designed light bulb object would inherit a change method from a generic light bulb class, so all you'd have to do is send a light bulb change message.
