Hi, In order for SUS to work, Im pretty sure I need BITS running on the client PCs. Is there a way to start that service on all the client PCs without manually connecting to each PC?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Tim

If the service is set to Manual, which I believe it is out of the box, SUS will start the BITS service for you if needed to download the update packages. If it set to demand or disable, then you would have to script something to change to service startup. I can help you with this if needed.

From what I seen they are all set to manual. So I should be good to go then?.. Thanks for the help

Tim

my experience has shown that with bits set to manual, you will need to start it (set to auto) for sus --> wu to work.

stiddy, is there is a property i am missing in my sus config to make sus start bits ?

buddafish - did you get anymore info on this..?? with the BITS Starting..

BITS should be set to manual. When SUS needs it, it will start it.

Is there a log that shows what client pcs have been updated?

each client will have a log file created in the winnt directory - windows update.log . scroll through this to view communications. the server also keeps a log of connections, ect.

thanks both lander215 and stiddy for the bits service info. curious though, why not set bits to automatic-started?

If the SUS server does it automatically, would there be any benefit to touching each client pc and setting BITS to automatic? ..

None whatsoever.

Just wanted to thank everyone for helping me out on this.

Much appreciated.
