Start setTimeout when stopped typing 1

How could I start a timer after the user stops typing for a few seconds? Because I want to run an ajax check on the field, but i don't want to do on every keyup event....

Every keyup event start a timer, and every keydown, stop it. Them if the timer fires, you know they've been idle for while.
