I have installed W2000 and setup different users.

When each user customises their desktop / program menu it affects the other users that log on to this PC.

Although they can change the background colour with out this changing on the other users logins.

What do I need to do to solve it ?
W98 had the option in the control panel for the users to have different desktops.

Cheers

Jason

Any programs installed in the 'All Users' profile will naturally apply to all users.

Any desktop settings that are involve the HKEY_CURRENT_CONFIG or HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE registry hives are going to affect all users of the machine.

What you need to do is use Group Policy and lock the users out of the configuration parts of the Desktop.

If I manually move items around in doc & settings from all users and defualt users to the other users, will this give the effect of the programs not being installed ?

Jason

Yes, they will not appear in All Programs in the Start Menu, and if you move them from the Desktop folder, they will not appear on the desktop.

By the way, right-click the Start Button, and select Explore to make this easier.

i modified the group policy object for a user to lockout the display icon from the control panel, when he's logged in. if another user then logs in, the display icon in control panel is back. any idea how to lockout the display settings for all users?

thanks,
