I have a backup server that back's itself up. The job is supposed to start at 11:50pm. It does. But then it sits there from 11:52 until 00:53 before it writes the first entry in the log file. All my other backup servers start immediately. And this one used to. It started this one hour delay, interesting enough it started with the daylight savings time change. I have verified the time on my server, I have turned on the tape log. It shows absolutely no activity between 11:52 and 00:53. It should be the network, since it's trying to backup itself.

Any ideas?
Thanks,
Debi

Debi,

ARCserve takes it's date/time information from the system locales, so could it be that DST or timezone settings are slightly different on that server?

You might also want to consider patching up to the recently release ARCserve 9 SP2.

Time and time zone are still checking out okay. The job does actually start at 11:50, I can see a couple of entries in the tape log. But then they just stop for exactly 1 hour. After the 1 hour, the activity log starts showing activity.

Thanks,
Debi

Hi,

can you enable detailed logging on the activity log?
you can do this from the Server Admin console.

This might throw some more light..

So it Shall be Written!
So it Shall be Done!!

Debi - I recall something like this previously - Not sure whether it was a bug that might be fixed in the service pack I mentioned earlier, or it may have been a job queue problem. During the 1 hour period - what does the job report it's status as? Is it 'calculating', 'estimating', 'backup', etc?

Hi,

If the Job has started backing up a volume it might not actually report anything till it finishes that particular volume.

If you wanna find out the individual files being backed up during that interval enable detailed loggin on the backup global options..

So it Shall be Written!
So it Shall be Done!!

I turned the detail logging on. The first file isn't listed until 1 hr and 1 minute past my start time. I'm not sure what the message is on the job status window, as I'm not usually watching at midnight. :) But I will try a test job today and see what it does and let you know.

Thanks again,
Debi

I did a test job, and it said "Estimating". So, I disabled the estimation and it still waits 1 hour before backing up the first file. It is always EXACTLY 1 hour. Not 59 minutes or 61, 60 on the nose every time.

Thanks,
Debi

Debi,

I'm still not sure what is causing this, but do recall this being an issue in AS200 and maybe early on in v9.x. Did you manage to patch up yet as was suggested earlier on? I haven't heard of this problem in quite some time.

I am running SP1 4a. But I'm working on testing SP2 right now.

Thanks,
Debi
