We have a need here to implement what is known as a 'Standby Server' in case there was a catastrophic problem with our primary server and needed to cutover to the standby server. Is there anyone out there who has already implemented a Standby Server and what gotchas could I run into. Also, is there any periodical I could go to that deals with this subject in more detail than my SQL7 Administration Guide? I would also like any information on automating the process of restoring full backups and transaction log backups to the standby server on a regular basis. I assume that I would have to copy the backup files over to the standby server from the primary server and then perform the restore.

One other question, I would assume that this Standby Server should probably be solely relegated as, just that, a Standby Server and should not necessarily be also used as a Test Server. Any ideas or opinions would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Bessebo
