I've got a user with a Dell Inspiron 4100 notebook with Windows XP installed on it. The Standby option in the power options is no longer available. I installed the OS on this machine and it was available when I turned the computer over to the user. The user has since installed additional programs. I've searched both the Microsoft KB, this forum, and the Dell KB and have found nothing that has been helpful. I've also upgraded to the most current BIOS available from Dell. Has anyone heard of certain software disabling this feature?

Look in the Power Options control panel. On the Hirbernate tab, make sure "Enable Hirbernation" is checked.

Thanks bcastner. I will give this KB article a shot. I searched the M$ KB but didn't come across this particular article.

Thanks all for the help. Problem solved. I found a software program that the user installed that was originally designed for Windows NT 4.0. Although it seems to run okay in Windows XP, it installed a driver that was not APM compliant. All it takes is one bad driver and you lose the APM features.
