OK, am I being dense or are standard XP local users (not administrators) retricted from seeing the C: drive?

I have just rebuilt my machine after a crash (clean install this time, last time an upgrade from a clean Win98 load) and now any local users that aren't a member of the admin group are unable to access the C: drive at all ("access denied" message)- in the last build they were allowed access to all areas except the private areas of other users.

What is going on and ho wdo I fix it? Thanks in advance.

Woops, forgot to add that the machine is XP Pro and the drive is formatted with NTFS.

Right click your c: drive and select sharing... Select security and make sure the "everyone" group is set to full control.

That's what I thought too, but under this install all I have on the security tab are options for Local Sharing (which is greyed out) and network sharing - none of the normal options are available.

Ummmm, I'll have to check that tonight when I get home. How do I do it? It's not something that I am familiar with.

Thanks for the help, it is much appreciated.

Go into windows explorer. In the top menu select Tools->folder options->view. At the bottom of the options uncheck simple file sharing.

EXCELLENT! Thanks very much, that has sorted the problem. I didn't even know about that switch.

Thanks again.
