stand alone server to BDC

Can a stand-alone server be changed to act as a BDC?

Only by reinstalling the operating system. I think there is also a non-free 3rd party tool (U-Promote or something) that's supposed to be able to do it, but I've heard some shady stories about it.

I wouldn't use those programs...I've heard lots of horror stories and they ended up reinstalling anyway. Why do you want a BDC in a single server environment? That confuses me!

He doesn't have a single-server environment. I think he meant to say 'member server'. That confuses a lot of people.
