I am running Apache 1.3.27 on Windows 2000 Pro on a Pentium 3 700MHz based PC with 500Mb memory, and there are 3 domains being accessed, primarily being CGI programs accessing a MySQL database version 4.0.20 and there are about 100 individual users per day, generating what I would call pretty low traffic. I also have a firewall on this PC and anti-virus etc.

Now, at the risk of inviting the scorn of the Linux fraternity, Windows crashes every couple of weeks and although I can just about live with it, I wonder what can be done about it.

Obviously, I can make sure that I have every patch and update available installed, but are there some areas that I can look at to improve reliability?

Thanks.

Sorry you're stuck with Winblows. Perhaps you should contact the vendor. Oh, right, they don't care... they don't have to, they're Microsoft.

It's probably your hardware, anyway, since 2000 is the most stable Windows there is. Besides, you've voided the warranty by installing non-microsoft software on it.

Seriously, though, there are about 30 people on these forums that would be happy to help you get linux installed on that machine. It'll probably run faster, too.

Hi Eric,

I knew it would be irresistable for someone! Actually, I used to work with some guys who used OS2, before you know who screwed it for them, and they used to laugh as well.

As it happens, I bought Suse 8 last year for just the use mentioned. I develop in Delphi and having got Kylix with Delphi 7, I fully intended to have a Linux based web server. But to be honest, although I got it up and running OK, I had some problems with Apache, Suse were of no help whatsoever, and I ran out of time with the learning curve.

So I guess the message is learn to live with Bill or dust off the Linux box?
