I have a website that must be secured. I have the appropriate root cert from Verisign and the site worked fine.

After a failover to a backup server with no certificate installed and a failback to the primary server, SSL does not seem to function.

I am able to get to the website using https, but the key icon does not show in IE. Further, if I double click the location where the key icon should show, the certificate window opens.

Please help me to determine what went wrong and how to correct it.

it actually sounds like potentially a caching mechanism in IE itself. I'd be curious to see what a network trace looks like while accessing the site..trace from both the client and the web server simultaneously...if you see it going over 443 and recieving on 443 (on server end), its safe to assume its an IE caching type symptom I'd think...
