Hi All,
I'm wondering how to fix this problem. I'm fairly certain it has something to do with XP (Home) and my particular install. I'm posting here in the Windows XP Pro Forum, because the Forum search indicated this would be the best place for my Windows Home question, so please don't tell me to post someplace else.
My problem occurs while using ssh to log into a remote server for email usage and so on. When I'm on other PCs at other locations, both private and public, I enjoy a continuous session that terminates only when I choose. That is not the case from my home office.
This occurs whether I'm using IE to launch a ssh URL or FF. The applet is MindTerm's AppGate, and loads onto the client machine if not already on there, regardless of browser and permissions. E.g., if on a limited account, it simply loads
to the temp space or whatever, and is ditched after use.
The phenom seems to have started early 2005, and I've just gotten fed up with it.
So, I've established that it's NOT the following:
browser
ssh app
the server providing ssh access
What it COULD be is:
a Windows XP setting for secure connections...
a NetGear wired router setting
a SpeedStream DSL modem issue
my ISP (SBC Yahoo) not setting something correctly
some other Windows XP related issue.
What I've done so far:
Rebooted, yadda yadda
Contacted SBC
Searched this forum
Searched MS Knowledge Base (pointless but have to do it)
Investigated time-out settings on ssh app
Investigated time-out settings on IE, FF
My Gear:
Windows XP Home SP1
(Celeron 2Ghz, 256k RAM, 40GB HD, ASUS P4XP-X mobo)
NetGear 4-port Wired Router RP614v2
SpeedStream DSL Modem 5100
Any help would be great.
