SRS 2005 Reporting Services Installation - Client

Hi - I posted a similar question in SRS forum, but thought that I would try here too -

I installed SQL 2005 and SQL reporting services 2005 on the server. I do not own visual studio .net 2005 and was told that I do not need it since SQL 2005 will install the VS.net shell for SRS 2005.

Well, this is fine on the server and now I am questioning the install on the client.

The question is this: If I install the client components from SQL 2005 disk for business intelligence will this install the needed visual studio shell on the client so that the client can create reports on that machine instead of the server?

FYI: This question would be more appropriate on the Microsoft SQL Server: Setup and Administration forum.

However, since I'm here: If you install SRS and/or SSIS on your PC, then yes, you will get a VS "shell" on your PC with Business Intelligence Design Studio and VS with Report Projects on your machine. However, VS will be a crippled version that only does SQL Server stuff, not true .Net development.

If you want to install the full blown version of Visual Studio 2005, you will have to un-install SQL Server 2005, install VS 2k5 and re-install all SQL 2k5 components. So be sure you're installing everything you want before you install, otherwise, you're looking at hours more work later on in the process.
