We currently have two Servers called REDSQL and BLUESQL. They are running several Applications and Databases.
Databases.

They reside on Windows 2003 Enterprise Edition Dell, X86-based PC with 4MB physical memory.

The instance of the database version running is SQL Server 2000 SP 4, 8.00.2039. RED is TEST and BLUE is Production.

One of the applications is AIS and contains two databases AIS and AIS Reporting. AIS data is 434MB and Trans log is 20 MB.

I have been requested to migrate the data and objects for AIS BLUESQL to AIS REDSQL and have them appear
the same.

What is the best practice to accomplish this task?

because this is a production database I would take a backup, copy the .bak file and restore it on your test server. There is the detach and attach method but that requires taking the source db off-line. Most people can't take their production databases off-line. Make sure the logins are in sync on both servers after you restore the database. To check if the SIDS are in sync run...

sp_change_users_login 'REPORT'

It will show you if login SIDS are out of sync. If they are you will have to repair them with.

sp_change_users_login 'update_one', 'login', 'login'

- Database performance looks fine, it must be the Network!
