I have an Access 97 front end which looks at an SQL 7 databse. The security did not seem to work properly (for allowing Insert and update rights on tables) via the Access front end, and now I have installed SP3, nothing I do seems to allow me the correct rights to the table. Anyone have any ideas? - I've tried eveything I can think of so far.....

Fiona, is the problem that you can't do enough, or you can do too much?

What security model are you using (Standard or NT)?
Generally, how have you set security for the user in question (IOW, did you use a built-in role like DataReader, or did you NOT use any built-in roles but instead set the permissions in the permissions grid or via GRANT or DENY?)

Dear Robert,

I am trying to use integrated security (i.e. both methods) and have set up users and roles, with specific rights to certains tabls. e.g. the talbe of all store info is not avaialbe, but the lnk table of other info for the stores has select, insert, update and delete rights. If I log imnto hte SQL box as me I can do all these things, but via the Access front end I can't do anything. I suspect that Access is't passing my log-on info to the SQL box, but no matter what I try nothing works!

I set up the user via the new login wizard, and then assigned them to a role with permissions.

Hope you can help.

Fiona

One thing I've encountered with some front ends is that their default is "trusted connection", so that even though you are trying to login using the standard method (username/password), you are actually logged in as domain/username. Might this apply?
