Is there a limit to the number of characters thatt can be submitted to the DB?

We're submitting via JDBC and weblogic. I'm getting a sql exception 'Invalid column name', but the column names all look gooo on the submitted sql statement. But the length is the string is 359.

I suppose there's some limit, but this is obviously not in your case: the limit is much higher. As for wrong column name, check whole statement, in some cases the error may be caused by extra comma or some other errors.

When I cut and paste the statement as is, sql plus doesn't see the terminating ';'. If I cut and paste piecemeal (i.e., insert some line breaks within the statement in sql plus, the statement executes.

This is the problem of your screen BUFFER, not SQL. Try to paste into EDITOR, not directly into command prompt.
