We have a situation were the domain account that sql server 2000 service
accounts was using was deleted. When we tried to use a different domain
account the services would still not run. We tried re-creating the account
that had been deleted, but that did not resolve anything. We are able to
start the services using a local system account. Does anyone know why we
cannot start the service using a domain account?

Thank U in advance for your help.

Has the server been removed from the domain?

You'll need to give the new domain account the rights it needs on the server to run the server. It will need the logon as a service account, and the logon as a batch process rights.

If you recreate the account you will still need to give the account the rights as the SID is different.
