First time doing this, so be gentle with me.

We have installed SQL server on our server. I then installed the enterprise manager on my machine which is connected to the server. I then open up enterprise manager and try to register the server but I am told the server can not be found.

Any ideas on if there needs to be more done on the server side or needs to be done on the client side(my machine).

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

(I do plan on going to get a good book this afternoon.

Thanks

Did you type in an instance name when you installed the server? Or did you leave the instance name blank? If you typed in the name of the server for the instance name, then the SQL Server name is Server\server.

If that doesn't help, try using the IP address of your server instead of the name.

Thanks

It now recognizes the sql server but doesn't allow me access, which I am sure is a permission deal.

thanks again
