I have a SQL server with 8GB ram, SQL 2k ent and win2k3 ent.

I get confused on which switches to use in boot.ini

the nearest i get is to set the /PAE and /AWE switch and then tell SQL to max use 6GB to leave some mem to OS.

the Server is only running SQL

would this be a good setup ?

That's fine. You can even increase SQL to 7 Gigs (leaving 1 for the OS).

You would need to add both switches to the end of the line in the boot.ini.

It's best to make a copy of the line and add the switchs to the new line, then use the GUI to make the new line the default, so if Windows doesn't like the switch you can easily move back to the old settings.
