Group,

I know to do failover clustering you need SQL Enterprise edition.

My question is if you setup a Microsoft W2k Advanced Server Cluster to a SAN for shared disk, can you get SQL server standard edition clustered?

Scenario:
2 servers each with W2k Adv. Server attached to a SAN.
Cluster the 2 servers with Cluster Administrator to shared disk on the SAN.
Install SQL server Standard Edition on both servers and put the databases on the Shared disk.

Thank you,
Steve

I am pretty sure that the company who provided your SAN will tell you that you MUST have Enterprise edition of MS SQL Server. I would discuss this with them to determine if you will be required to have the Enterprise edition. I know that when I presented the same question to a local SAN provider, they told me that we would be safer having an Enterprise edition.

Hope this helps.

I have that setup or close to it....

MS Windows Advanced Server 2000 on a two-node active/passive cluster with SANS. Shared storage is two 14 hard drive arrays. It required the MS SQL Server ENTERPRISE edition.

Like SQLBill says -- you must have SQL Enterprise running on Advanced Server in order to cluster databases.
