Check John Viescas' web site at He co-authored a book with Michael Hernandez that is one of the best.

SQL Books Online are very specific to SQL Server 2000 syntax. If jmandiaz wasn't kidding us when stating "good ACCESS books" then SQL BOL should be avoided. There are many features and syntax that are specific to either SQL Server or Access.

The books on John's site vary. I had thought the SQL Queries for Mere Mortals was more focused on Access. Michael's book Database Design for Mere Mortals, Second Edition has been a standard.
For Access specific queries, I like "Access Database Design & Programming" by Steve Roman (O'Reilly) My dog-eared copy is first edition from June 1997.

I think SQL BOL are specific for Trans-SQL used for the MS SQL Server 2000 (and 2005?). The SQL used in Access is refered to as JET-SQL if I'm not mistaking. If you program Access projects you will use Trans-SQL and the SQL BOL apply...
